Church in the village Uklyn

The village of Uklyn (ukr: Уклин), Svalyava district, is situated at 337 m above sea level on the river Malaya Pinya, which flows into the river Pinya near the village of Polyana in 5 km downstream. It is well known by its wooden church. In addition, the slopes around the village are abundantly covered with Gejfel saffron and spring Belotsvet. There is a small dam on the river Malaya Pinya 500 meters below the village.

The St. Peter`s and Paul`s church. The real date is missing, but assume that it was built in the late 18th century, although some investigators think it is rather the beginning of the 19th century.

According to the label, the church was built of wood of the old church. Some historians date this old church of the 14th century. Unfortunately, there is not reliable information. There is only the memory in 1733 there was a wooden church of St. Nicholas with one bell in the village. Nevertheless, people tell us there were two wooden churches and they both burned. Previously, the village was on the other side of the valley, but during the cholera epidemic it was forced to change the place of living. The small church was built as fewer people survived the epidemic. Nowadays both of the bells of the small church are in a new church and the old one is closed.

At the end of the 19th century, Legotskyj, a well-known scholar and a historian of the time, was very interested in this temple. It should be mentioned that the church in the village Uklyn is unique. It belongs to a group of small wooden churches of Transcarpathia. Only few of these churches left. The old one is in Uklyn, one in Tarasovka, and one in Kostrinskoy Rostock. There is one younger, it was built in 1907. It was in the village Domashyn, Velykyj Bereznyj district, but it was destroyed and replaced in (2007) for a new Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate.

By the way, at the end of the 70's the church was not covered. Now it is closed with brown shingled. Also, the porch was closed by the wooden rim.

The slopes outside the village look like this in spring... Saffron Geyfelya are in blossom. Spring Belotsvet would be in blossom on the opposite banks of the river a little later.
