The caves in the village of Lucky (Schaslyve)
It is a wonderful region - Transcarpathia, here are wonderful names of villages. Can you imagine a village where everyone is happy! Still, there are so many gorgeous old vineyards around the village, and 14 caves with open access at the entrance to the village.
Led by the desire to feel like cave explorers-dabblers, in the early morning on Sunday we went to the village of
Lucky (ukr:
Schaslyve, the old name -
Serenchіvtsі, from the Hungarian "serencha" - good luck). It was not hard at all to find the caves, and their position against a hillside, planted with grapes, just pointed to their destination. All 14 caves were gouged "by hand" in the rock of volcanic tuff, which visually distinguishes them from the brethren in the neighboring villages of Uzhhorod district gouged in limestone rocks.
The caves are situated at the foot of the mountainside, right on the banks of the creek. The average distance between the inputs is 5-7 meters.
Massive, covered with centuries-old moss, entrances to the caves hold many secrets and legends...
All caves are of different lengths. There are of 3-4 meters. There are about 10 meters. All caves, the entrances to which are not covered with earth and leaves, and in which you can enter virtually non-bended, were polluted with debris unrecognizably. Take a look at the picture – you see green dots - this is the broken glass of vodka bottles. There is a gauged shelf in tuff, in the wall, in the background.
Actually, this is the shelf close up.
Some long caves with a few side rooms and connected the neighboring caves with ventilation vents, are flooded. And again there is floating debris in the water. Although there are a few dry and not particularly polluted caves, where you can climb without the "negative", but that's a narrow passage and not every ass can climb through.
Such a stream flows in most of the caves. There is Meadow Picnic a little further.
