Memorial Park in Perechyn. Part two.
The continuation of the article about the memorial park in Perechyn. The first part describing the story of the monument and the cemetery can be found
here.
No less interesting element of the memorial park is a small implement standing in the center, near the monument. That is a green spot what attracts your look first of all. The second thing on which your glance stops is a golden-brown painted shells on the monument. And then you examine the rest things.
So, let's see, what artillery combat unit appears to our eyes in the center of the memorial park in honor of the liberation of Perechyn from the Nazis.
It is not so difficult to guess that this is the howitzer of WW. The howitzer is a type of artillery piece, intended primarily for mounted shooting indirect fire outside the line of sight targets. They can shoot with different types of shells and they are rather rate. The elevation is up to 75 degrees. The howitzer can be easily distinguished from the usual gun - its trunk is noticeably shorter.
So, we have the howitzer of
122-mm, the model of
1930. Shortly it is called
M-30. It was produced commercially from 1939 to 1955. The howitzer was so "successful", that it is still in service with several countries and has participated in every armed conflict of the second half of the 20th century. It is a tool installed on the first self-propelled WWII, namely,
SU-122. The old royal howitzers, with which the German company "
Krupp" and the French firm "
Schneider" were connected, were taken as the basis for the creation of M-30. The howitzer was modernized many times, and, eventually, by 1938 we had got what played a decisive role during the Second World War. From 1940 to1955 these howitzers were manufactured more than 19 thousand pieces.
The statement of tool is 8 persons. The rate - 5-6 rounds per minute. The height of the line of fire - 1200 mm. The barrel length is 2 m 80 cm, the weight is 2500-3000 kg. Under special conditions it could shoot at a distance of 12 kilometers. At point-blank range - up to 800 meters. The velocity of the projectile in flight - about 500 meters per second.
By the way, at the beginning of the war the Wehrmacht captured several hundred M-30 howitzers of M-30 and ... quickly took them on board. The German army called the howitzer as
sFH396 (r). China set to produce this gun and called it the "
Type 54".
M-30 fired all the range of 122-mm howitzer projectiles, including old grenades of Russian and foreign production. After the Second World War, new types of ammunition were added to the below range of missiles, for example, the cumulative projectile 3BP1.
Here is a curious fact. Russia still defends Kuril Islands with 18 M-30 howitzers.
What is surprising is the fact that near the center of Perechyn once weapons of war is freely available (from 1950, although I could be wrong) and many instruments and components of which are still operating. Let's take a closer look to it…
The "cutting" of barrel is clearly visible in this picture.
Here, in this photo the hauler and recuperator are clearly visible (top and bottom of the barrel) the so-called recoil device. Their construction was purely hydraulic or hydropneumatic. Oil or paraffin was used as the fluid. The main objective of recoil devices is the reducing of the load on the monitors at a shot of the gun (the holster which is fixed to the trunk).
Here is the close-up end of the sliding holster in the lower right corner.
Here is the view of the gun from the breech with the lock. It is, by the way, in the center (the construction with a handle).
Here is the same thing, only in the open view. It is the breech of the piston type before us. The breech is usually a separate piece in modern instruments.
Here are two water levels on the panoramic sight of Hertz’s construction (for filled positions).
Hertz Panorama - collimation and angular optic device of ground artillery and rocket salvo. It provides guidance tool in the vertical and horizontal planes. It was also used for direct fire.
The effective scale of curving is 1940. How many years have passed, and the metal is still not oxidized under the rain and snow…
Here's a wheel for laying horizontal...
... And here it adjusts the vertical...
Here is a marking on a wheel rubber. By the way, and this part of the gun is in the rain, snow and hot sun for more than 60 years. And there is nothing ... it is as good as new.
It is the handbrake. It is one on two wheels. Going to the left tube "sends a lock" on the left wheel.
Here is a small art photo of the semantic implications at the end of the material.
