I’ve been many times to my favourite sky resort in the village of
Syniak (
Mukachevo district) but I had no idea that there was a spot of fantastic natural beauty only 1.5 km away. I am talking about
Obava Stone (ukr:
Obavskiy Kamin’), named after the nearby village of
Obava (
Mukachevo district).

I had been trying to visit the northernmost tea plantation in the world for a while. You may wonder what the difficulties associated with this desire may be as I’m sure all of us have a friend-historian or a friend-tourist who can easily point us in the right direction. But, you see, the bottom line is no-one was terribly specific when it came to finding this place. They had all certainly heard of some place close to some hill somewhere around over there but the detailed directions were either missing or were way too ambiguous. So anyways for a long time no-one could tell me exactly where this place may be.

The village
Velyki Komyaty (ukr:
Великі Комяти, alt:
V. Komyaty) of Vynogradiv district was founded in 1345 and is situated at an altitude of 131 m above sea level in the river valley
Borzhava. Besides a destroyed wooden synagogue and
Jewish cemetery not far from old water mill on the river Borzhava there are also three objects representing at least some historical interest in the village.

Franciscan monastery with a small church on its territory.

The village of
Uklyn (ukr:
Уклин), Svalyava district, is situated at 337 m above sea level on the river
Malaya Pinya, which flows into the river Pinya near the village of Polyana in 5 km downstream. It is well known by its wooden church. In addition, the slopes around the village are abundantly covered with Gejfel saffron and spring Belotsvet. There is a small dam on the river Malaya Pinya 500 meters below the village.
