Epiphany in Nelepino. Part one.

Nelepino (ua. Неліпино, Hung. Harsfalva) was founded in 1430 and situated not far from district centre Svalyava, which is in the valley of the Latorytsya river. The believers of Transcarpathia and neighboring regions pay their attention to this village. Last Tuesday there was the phenomenon of holy images (Epiphany).

It started with the fact that the local forester Ivan went to the forest for firewood in the tract "Popovі Dolinky". He has found a dry tree (beech). He has sawed it, cut it into the fire wood and started to kindle the fire place. At first, the fire woods did not want to burn at all but then they started to crackle micro explosions, then the fire went out and started to smoke. Suddenly, the fire burst into flames inside (!) chimney (!)… The master of the chimney rushed to call the firefighters but then he extinguished the fire himself. When the logs were taken from the fireplace, he looked at them and he was astonished. Everyone can see the visible crosses on the logs. There were found dozens more crosses on the logs in the backyard among other ones. As a result, all the fragments that contain pictures of the crosses were taken to the Orthodox Church the Ascension of Christ in the center of the village. Instantly, ecclesiastical authorities of the Diocese of Mukachevo came to Nelepino. They have nodded their heads and have confirmed the divine origin of the images as people were saying. Then they took some of the timbers to the diocese for further analysis. They have left four pieces in a small chapel inside the church, where everyone could see them and even touch. And people started to come. The ringer (sexton) of the church Volodya told me a lot of information about what had happened. As he said, there was the largest amount of people yesterday and the day before yesterday. People came to look for a miracle. Yesterday, for example, he closed the church after the last visitors after midnight. People were looking at the logs (timbers) and then went to the tract "Popovі Dolinky (4 km from the center of the village through the mud) to look at the place where the tree was growing.

When I came to the church early in the morning, there was just a prayer service to mark the discovery of the marked crosses on the timbers. The believers of the village were praying and the priest, Father Dmitry, regularly went to the chapel with censer.

And now there is some photographic material with the comments. I took some pictures of the overall plan of the chapel when nobody was there. In fact, there is a small room near the entrance, where the timbers are located (right).

He demonstrates me how the core trunk (in the bell-ringer`s hands) just goes in its place. Light crosses on it (the core) then just touch the dark crosses the trunk.



In such a way, a timber is looked like with inserted core into it. And the core is "held" in it...



It is one of the nearest logs. People recently found out the numbers on the upper right cross. Someone can see there one, two and nine which formed the "129". Someone can see "127". It is said, the numbers have been noticed in a particular light, which was created by one of the visitor`s camera.

Unfortunately, I was trying to see the figures in the village and I was using the photo-shop to enlarge sections of photos, but anything did not see...
