The Village Lipovets. The Lake. The Waterfall. The Cliff. Part One.
The village of
Lipovets (ukr:
Липовець) Khust district, is situated at 407 m at the foot of the mountains Grabow (782 m) and Koshelevo (720 m). The stream takes its origin above the village it is also called Lipovets, which is flowing into the river Rika. There are a lot of sights in the village Lipovets and it can compete for primacy in Khust area. There is a waterfall there, and two red rocks "Malyj Charlenyj Kamin`" and " Velykyj Charlenyj Kamin`", and high- mountain fish farm, and the natural formation "Kotel". There is even an old water mill. Somewhere on its slopes there are fascinating cottages of Uzhgorod tax collectors, where Mr. Yushchenko being a prime minister liked to have a rest.
By the way, a few words about the beauty of the village... It is just fantastic. The village lies in the gorge, there is an elevation difference between the lowest hut village and the top which is three hundred meters. All the houses in the village are not tightly "packed" but they are "situated on the meadows". The village Lipovets is also called as "The village of the thousands of streams". In fact, there are only a few hundred of streams, but it's still very beautiful. Lots of small branches of the stream divert the mountain water to the peasant plots. Sometimes the streams are again merged into a large stream, but then they are again divided and hidden in the rural homesteads.
The main attraction of the village, of course, is the mountain lake "
Morskoe Oko" ("Sea Eye"), which is located at an altitude of 526 m. The lake is volcanic. The hydrological nature reminder of local importance has both a landscape value and a historical one. The diameter of the lake is about 20 meters. The depth of the lake is 45 meters according to the documents but visually it is not more than 5-7 meters deep. None of the streams or brooks is flown into the lake and none follow from it. Nevertheless, it does not dry up and freeze in winter. After the winter the water is crystal clear far from the pavilions of the lake and under the young beech you can see "dark spot" as the residents of the village say it is a place where the filling of the lake with water is. As I have already said, it is very beautiful all around. Silence, calmness... There is a fantastic view of the valley from the banks of the "Morskoe Oko" ("Sea Eye") where the village is situated. There is a private fish farm 50 meters below the lake and it is as beautiful as the lake itself.
The residents of the village tell an amazing story about the lake that it was not at the place where it is now but it was higher up the slope. This place is called "
Kotel" and it is also interesting. The slopes of the "Kotel" were very steep and the cows often were falling and then drowning, as they were thirsty. The residents decided to fill up the lake. At the bottom of the "Kotel" you can see the remnants of the large stones. People say that after a certain time after the lake was filled up it has appeared in a new place at 150 meters below and it is there up to this day.
Another place of interest is a Red rock, which is slightly far away from the "Morskoe Oko" and "Kotel". It is called "
Malyj Charlenyj Kamin`" (ru:
Малый Красный Камень). There is also the "
Velykyj Charlenyj Kamin`" (ru:
Боль?ой Красный Камень). It is a big mountain above the "Malyj Kamin`", where all the edges of the mountain are represented in the rock formations in red. At this edge of the mountain, by the way, there is the border of Khust and Irshava districts.
But this is not the end. About 200 meters below the lake "Morskoe Oko" there is a waterfall with the total height of 12-15 meters. I think the drop height in the period of full water can reach 5-7 meters.
Some photos. If you plan your route to the lake correctly, the first thing will be a waterfall on the road. The water is finished from the edge of a large lawn. As our guide said, the waterfall was photographed in such a state when you cannot see its real potential.
This is the mid-way between the waterfall and the lake. This is the upper part of one of the meadows with the view to one of the places of Lipovets.
Who wants to see the picture of the panoramic view from this point,
please do it (1,35 MB, JPG).
Look! What a beautiful picture. There is a large anthill in the middle of the lawn and nice blue and violet flowers. Fantastic view.
For those who care what flowers these are, I can tell that they are the representatives of the violet flowers, the dog violet (lat. Viola canina). It blooms in May, June and sometimes once more at the end of summer. It is used in medicine and as a decorative plant.
So, there are views of some of the private yards of the residents of the village. The house, a big lawn near it and a stream. There is even the electricity supply here.
And this is a lake. The picture would look better if not for the red-painted container on the background. The mountain on the right is Koshelevo (720 m).
And it is a garden house on the bank of the lake. There is a beautiful view on the village. You can sit, watch and understand that it is a suitable place to drink cold vodka and to eat shashlyk.
