The ruined church in the village Domashyn
The wooden church of St. architect. Michael was built in 1907 in the village Domashyn, Velykyy Bereznyy region. It belongs to the class of late small wooden churches of Transcarpathia simulating walled temples. Previously, the church roof was covered with a "shingle". Later shingle was covered with buckle. The walls are covered with boards. The pinnacle of frame type with baroque finishes is covered with a hipped roof. The iconostasis dates from the time of construction of the church. Old icons on it are covered with new, linen icons. The church stands on the spot where formerly its predecessor (1751) stood, which was even smaller in size and with a small bell.
Such a look the church had in 1929 in the picture below (photo in the left). The look of the church in 1996 is in the right image. The small size of the church forms its special charm. It is noted by many who saw this church ...
in life.
In 2007, the local religious community decided to build a new church in the village. They decided not to do it at the new location, but at the old one, where more than a hundred years the predecessor stood. They did not hesitate, a stone walled church was built
over a wooden church, "devoured" it. When the construction was completed, the wooden church inside the stone church was dismantled and brought to the trash. It is in the truest sense of the word. Domes with a "lantern" were burned along with young undergrowth on a pile of debris. The wooden church ceased to exist. Instead, now it is an architectural excessive raunch of blue color with stars on the domes.
Especially, I liked a place where "
2007" put in this “quiche”...
There are logs from the old church right at the entrance to the new church. They lie in the old graves. Please note that one of the logs is set ajar on the Iron Cross on the right.
We see that the church was dismantled carefully and respectfully. Nevertheless, some structural elements were damaged...
It is a place in the fire which burned construction waste. A “poppy-head” of the church is in the center.
It is better seen as a fire worked from that perspective. But the old tin withstood.
Here are another pile of logs. A down by wreath can be seen down by from below.
The photo clearly shows how the logs are combined. The "crucible" is sticking on the right.
It is a general view of the part of the church cemetery. Debris, logs, mud, graves. It is wonderful builders. It is a wonderful village.
To tell the truth, I do not know how to express my feelings concerning what I’ve seen during my visit to the village Domashyn. There were many such examples, when the congregation, "for the benefit", creates "miracles", in my local history activity. But such a way how the old church was just destroyed, I saw for the first time. Walked around the church and the cemetery with a camera, I went on the road, approached a group of old ladies and asked "how it is so"… The answer just killed me, "The church was old, small and not pretty. All are not fit to it. Now we have a big beautiful church". Well, what can I say, no comment.
