The Saint-Miklos Castle. Part two.
The continuation of the story of about my trip to
Saint Miklos castle in the village in
Chinadievo in the fall of 2008.
And this is just incredible. I just can’t stop starring at the "masterpieces" like this one. You can see bits of the original arch and the subsequent efforts to improve it including the poorly installed wooden window. A truly horrible sight indeed.
And this is what one of the inside walls looks like. The three larger windows are wide open but the tiny one down below has been closed off with several layers of bricks. The door appears to be the product of the military architectural activities.
This is the hole in the wall down at the foundation of the right tower. As you can see it’s been boarded up from the inside and descends down to the basements. A minute later I would discover the seal wasn’t all that tight and armed with my flash light I would squeeze through into the basement.
Looking at the mountain of trash around I gather that local youth likes to visit this part of the castle quite regularly. In spite of this, the archs in the basement are truly incredible.
Certain passages are closed off and the ceiling had been painted at some very distant point.
The thick walls gradually turn into the thick foundation.
It is super humid in the basement part. The stain on the wall suggests the level of water which once used to fill the basement. That’s quite sad.
Check out the shapes of archs in some parts of the castle. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like this before.
When we had enough of the basement, we were given a tour of the interior of the castle. The enthusiasts managed to renovate the first floor only partially. The showpieces seen here were either found in the castle or were donated by the locals.
…contemporary art…
This is one of those mysteries of the castle, which no one could clarify to me. How did this mismatch happen?
